The Best Cooking Class in Florence – A Review

If you have been reading my posts for a while, you know I often go on food tours when visiting new cities. There is nothing I love more than experiencing a culture through its culinary scene. However, on my most recent trip to Italy, my husband and I decided to take one of the best cooking classes in Florence to try something new. It ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. While food tours are valuable in introducing a country’s culture, cooking classes leave you with valuable knowledge you can carry with you for life by bringing what you learned into your kitchen.

About the Cooking Class

This is one of Florence’s highest-rated cooking classes, and my husband and I have to agree with the stellar reviews. In the class, you will learn how to make three different kinds of pasta and three different pasta sauces in a spacious yet cozy kitchen with a lively atmosphere. Besides laughing with the other pasta makers and drinking wine, the lively appeal also comes from the chef. Our chef had a great sense of humor and was very helpful in answering questions and ensuring that the pasta we made was edible.

After rolling the dough, creating the filling, and shaping the pasta, you enjoy the fruits of your labor by tasting all the pasta with their respective sauces. The chef starts the class with a Ragù that simmers and wafts its aromatics into the air throughout the class. Towards the end of the class, he shows you how to quickly whip up a butter sage sauce and a fresh tomato sauce. Watching him make these sauces improved how I make quick pasta sauces at home.

All of the pastas we made were fantastic. My husband’s favorite was the tortellini with the butter sage sauce, and mine was the pappardelle with ragù. Overall, I recommend this class to anyone interested in bringing some cooking knowledge home.

What To Know Before You Go

This class lasts about 3 hours and is open for all skill levels. You will be given unlimited wine and get to eat the pasta at the end of class. However, because this is a rather large class, all the pasta is boiled together, so you might not eat the pasta you made. Regardless, they all taste about the same, with some slight variations. All the pasta-making supplies will be laid out on the tables for you. You simply have to show up at the time you register for.
